Four world-famous artists, over twelve hours of interviews and webinars, thousands of inspired participants! The impact from this year’s programme of live entertainment, training and career development for young people across the UK is clear. We reflect on our favourite moments of this exciting partnership so far and explore all the content, opportunities and rewards still on offer.
Apprentice Nation is a shared mission of WhiteHat, RockCorps and BT: to energise and inspire young people to shape their future. With a mix of exclusive artist performances, interviews and work-ready webinars, the programme raises awareness for apprenticeships by providing underrepresented groups of young people with the opportunity to upskill for the future.
Following on from London and Manchester pilots last year, our continued commitment to young people is now more important than ever. The Resolution Foundation (2020) reported 19% of 18 to 24 year olds furloughed during the coronavirus crisis had lost their job in September, with ethnic minorities disproportionately affected in this trend.

Helping to face these numbers and empower all young people to shape their future, Apprentice Nation’s digital platform has been used by thousands of young people across the UK to date.
There was no better way to launch this programme than with performances from Tinie, Raye, Krept and Konan and Ms Banks, all live streamed from Printworks London. Teaming up with our artists were our inspiring hosts and industry experts - including Amani Simpson, Sian Anderson, Mike Malak and Tam Greene - guiding us through topics from networking to wellbeing, building your CV to how the Black Lives Matter movement is motivating employers. In this week’s webinar, hosts Louis Howell and Remel London gave us insight into going far in the current environment, helping participants navigate digital skills, redundancy and mentorship.
A WhiteHat favourite was the live Q&A ‘Into the Booths’ where audiences were invited to bring their burning apprenticeship questions to WhiteHat apprentices and experts, and BT apprentices. Creating an open and honest community platform, our apprentices helped inspire participants to explore the apprenticeship route and dished out plenty of tips on how to land a dream role. The webinars were greatly received with one participant saying: “I learned about how much opportunity there is in taking apprenticeships and that it is broad. I also realised that university is not the only option and you can learn a lot more skills in an apprenticeship.”
On top of Apprentice Nation’s webinars and interviews, there are plenty of opportunities for young people to get rewarded for their work and go far with their skills. Each activity completed in the Training Hub brings you one step closer to unlocking rewards like England football tickets, Sony headphones, or even an exclusive video call with Tinie, Raye, Krept and Konan, or Ms Banks.
Participants can put their networking skills into practice by booking free 1-1 Mentoring Sessions with industry experts such as Tom Harrison, CEO, England and Wales Cricket Board; Zoe Stern, Community Engagement Lead, Google; Spencer McHugh, Marketing Director (Interim), Beats by Dre; or even WhiteHat’s Co-founder and CEO, Euan Blair. Through the Journal Project, a six-month programme of portfolio-building workshops, participants will be supported in exploring their creative side while giving their CV a unique boost.
